Former President Carter Funeral

(Various/Washington, DC) Washington DC prepares to bid farewell to former President Jimmy Carter today (Thursday) as the government takes part in a national day of mourning.

Today, Carter’s casket arrives at the Washington National Cathedral for a national funeral service that includes the US Marine Orchestra, the Armed Forces chorus, and generations of dignitaries tasked with putting Carter’s legacy into words.

The son of former Vice President Walter Mondale will speak today at the funeral.

Ted Mondale says he will deliver a eulogy for President Carter that was written by his father nearly a decade ago. The Carter Center asked Ted to represent the Mondale family at the state funeral. Mondale says the eulogy touches on Carter’s faith, principles and policies, including his dedication to improving human rights and to fight climate change.

This afternoon, the former President travels home to Plains, Georgia one last time.
