FORMER SLEEPY EYE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SECOND-DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER

A former Sleepy Eye man pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in Nicollet County District Court stemming from the death of a Sleepy Eye woman last October near Fort Ridgely State Park.  35-year-old Casey Narvaez agreed to a 79-month sentence.  Felony second-degree intentional murder and aiding suicide charges were dismissed.  He also faces a felony assault charge in Brown County District Court.  Court documents say Nicollet County dispatch received a 911 call from the Minnesota River boat ramp near Highway 4.  Nicollet and Renville County deputies, Fairfax police and ambulance and state troopers responded and saw Narvaez standing outside a GMC Acadia with zip ties around his neck.  Authorities discovered the body of a woman, identified as 35-year-old Kayla Hulsey inside the Acadia.  Narvaez told authorities that he and Hulsey agreed to die by suicide together.  His sentencing is scheduled for May 6 in Nicollet County District Court.
