Free Well-Water Testing Offered at Farmfest
Private-well owners attending Farmfest can have their drinking water tested for nitrate at no charge.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture will provide onsite testing during the August 4th through 6th event at the Historic Gilfillan Estate near Redwood Falls. Testing takes less than five minutes, results are provided immediately and no personal information is collected.
Participants should run cold tap water for five to ten minutes before collecting at least one cup in a clean, sealed container. The sample should be kept chilled if possible and taken directly to the M-D-A exhibit.
Nitrate cannot be detected by taste, smell or appearance. Elevated levels can pose serious health risks, especially for infants and pregnant women. Minnesota Department of Agriculture
