Gopher Football has open practice today

(Minneapolis, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The University of Minnesota football team today will host its only practice that is open to the fans during the spring practice period. The Golden Gophers will showcase their team during today’s workout at the team’s indoor practice facility on campus at 4:30 P-M. Minnesota senior-to-be linebacker Maverick Baranowski says the team is looking to improve during this spring practice time frame and is hoping to lock into an identity that will help them win football games this fall. There will be one other chance besides today for Gopher fans to watch their team this spring. The annual spring game returns on Saturday, April 25th at 11 A-M at Huntington Bank Stadium. That event is free to the public, but fans are encouraged to bring disposable diapers and wipes for the spring game. These items will then be donated to the Diaper Bank of Minnesota, which provides diapers and wipes to families in need through partner agencies in the Twin Cities. Minnesota is coming off a 2025 season that saw them go 8-5, including wins over Wisconsin and Nebraska, as well as a bowl game win over New Mexico. The Gophers open the 2026 season on Thursday, September 3rd at home against Eastern Illinois.
