Gopher gymnast qualifies for Nationals
(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota senior gymnast Mya Hooten has been announced as an individual qualifier to this year’s N-C-A-A Women’s Gymnastics Championships. She will head to Fort Worth, Texas to compete on vault in the national meet, which takes place in Dickies Arena from April 18-20. Hooten will compete in the second semi final session on Thursday, April 18 and will rotate with Utah. Her 9.975 score on vault during the Fayetteville Regional semifinal round on Thursday night qualified her to the national meet as the top finisher from a non N-C-A-A Championships-qualifying team. This will be the third N-C-A-A Championships appearance for Hooten, but first as an individual. Hooten went with the Gophers in 2021 and 2022, where she was an N-C-A-A Championships First Team All-America on Floor and an N-C-A-A Championships Second Team All-American on Vault in both seasons. Minnesota (20-11, 6-3 B1G) ended its season on Saturday in the NCAA Regional Finals in Fayetteville, Ark., after posting a score of 197.400.
