Gopher Volleyball upsets #1 and defending National Champion Texas

(Milwaukee, WI) — The 18th-rated Golden Gopher volleyball team beat top-ranked and defending national champion Texas in five sets last night in Milwaukee. The Gophers won the second, third, and fifth sets en route to the upset win. It was Minnesota’s first victory over a number-one ranked team since a 2019 win over Stanford. The Gophers were led by Julia Hanson, who had 19 kills and 13 digs. Senior Melani Shaffmaster had 44 assists, 17 digs, six digs, and four aces. Minnesota is 1-1 on the season and will visit 23rd-ranked Baylor on Friday night.
