Gopher Womens Basketball loses to Washington
(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team lost at home to Washington last night 72-62. The Golden Gophers held a 27-17 lead late in the second quarter, but the visiting Huskies took over from there. Washington outscored Minnesota 24-0 in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference. Gopher head coach Dawn Plitzuweit says her team did not play well enough on defense, allowing the Huskies to shoot 58-percent from the floor for the game. The Gophers were led by Grace Grocholski (gruh-HULL-skee) and Annika Stewart, who each tallied 13 points. Minnesota has now lost five of its last seven games and is 20-9 overall and 8-9 in the Big Ten. Washington improved to 17-12 overall and 8-9 in the conference. The Golden Gophers will visit 22nd-ranked Michigan State on Saturday at 1 P-M.
