Gopher Womens Basketball wins WBIT
(Indianapolis, IN) — The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team never trailed in a 75-63 win over Belmont yesterday Indianapolis to claim the W-B-I-T Championship. The Golden Gophers led by 14 points at halftime and by as many as 24 points in the third quarter before the Bruins got to as close as eight points in the final two minutes. Minnesota was led by freshman Tori McKinney of Minnetonka, who scored a career high 26 points. Junior forward Mallory Heyer of Chaska registered her second straight double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Junior guard Amaya Battle of Hopkins scored 17 points. The Gophers finish the season with a 25-11 mark, while the Bruins end at 26-13. This is the second post-season tournament championship in Gopher program history to go along with the W-B-I title they won in 2012.
