Gophers begin Track and Field Championships

The University of Minnesota track and field teams begin Big Ten Championship competition today in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Gopher men enter ranked 15th nationally, while the women are ranked 23rd. Minnesota has 18 entries ranked in the Big Ten’s top five, including five number-one marks. Anthonett Nabwe leads the conference in both the hammer throw and discus, Ali Weimer owns the top 5,000-meter time, and on the men’s side, Hakeem Ford and Emmett Gerres enter with top Big Ten marks. Competition runs through Sunday, with NCAA regional qualifiers announced next week.
