Gophers WBB Misses NCAA Tournament, Local Schools still in D2 Tourney
(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team missed out on an at-large berth for the N-C-A-A Tournament, but accepted a bid to the W-B-I-T field. The 20-11 Golden Gophers will travel to Toledo for an opening round game scheduled for Thursday. A tip time has not yet been set. The host Rockets are 24-8 and have averaged more than four-thousand fans for their home games this season. The Gophers finished second in the W-N-I-T tourney last year, but the W-B-I-T is a step up from that event.
(Topeka, KS) — The Minnesota State-Moorhead men’s basketball team beat Winona State last night 70-59 to advance to the N-C-A-A Division II Men’s Basketball Sweet 16. The 25-8 Dragons will face the host school Washburn tomorrow night at 7 P-M in Topeka for the right to go to the D-II Elite Eight. Washburn advanced to the Sweet 16 matchup after beating Concordia-St. Paul last night 94-78. The Golden Bears bowed out of the season with an impressive 22-9 record. Washburn will enter tomorrow’s game with a 28-3 overall record and a number-five national ranking.
(Pittsburg, KS) — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s basketball team will play Pittsburg State tonight in the Sweet 16 round of the N-C-A-A Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament. The 28-4 Mustangs advanced to this round after beating Fort Hays State (KS) on Saturday night 77-63. Pittsburg State is 31-3 on the season. Tonight’s game tips off at 7 P-M at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kansas.
