Governor Walz Announces $40 Million to Prevent Homelessness

Governor Tim Walz says about 11,000 Minnesota households will receive help staying in their homes through a new $40 million investment approved by the Legislature. The funding will be distributed through 24 local administrators of the state’s Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program. The money will provide emergency financial assistance and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness or at immediate risk of losing their housing. State officials say grant agreements will be finalized this summer, with the funding expected to reach communities by the end of the year. Walz says one unexpected setback shouldn’t force a family out of its home.
