Governor Walz Selects Director of the Office of Emergency Medical Services
[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz today announced the appointment of Dylan Ferguson to serve as the inaugural director of the Office of Emergency Medical Services. Ferguson will start in this new role on January 1, 2025.
“I am proud to appoint Dylan Ferguson as director of the newly created Office of Emergency Medical Services,” said Governor Walz. “The office will ensure emergency medical services providers have the tools they need to serve all Minnesotans. Ferguson brings more than two decades of EMS experience, and in his new capacity as director he will continue building and improving statewide services and programs.”
“Dylan Ferguson is an experienced public servant who is committed to improving EMS services in Minnesota and I am excited that he will continue his great work as director of the Office of Emergency Medical Services,” said Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan. “Under his leadership, Minnesota’s EMS professionals will receive the guidance necessary to provide the highest level of care and support to our communities.”

About Dylan Ferguson
Dylan Ferguson has served as the executive director of the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board since February 2022 where he led multiple administrative and operational improvements. An EMS practitioner for two decades, he previously served as the director of the Bureau of EMS for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Prior to joining state service, Ferguson served as the director of the McLean County Area EMS System in Central Illinois. He holds an M.A. in emergency and disaster management from American Public University and a B.S. from Illinois State University in political science and government.
About the Office of Emergency Medical Services
The Office of Emergency Medical Services is a new office developed to regulate and support the emergency medical services industry. The office credentials EMS practitioners, including emergency medical technicians and paramedics, and administers grant funds to regional EMS systems. The office also provides oversight and effective regulation of licensed ambulance services and EMS education programs. The office is a successor to the Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board.
