Grand Forks Man Charged After 115-Mile-Per-Hour Pursuit

A Grand Forks man faces two felony charges following a high-speed pursuit that ended with his vehicle rolling into a ditch.

Court documents say a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper clocked 31-year-old Lucas Swanson traveling 92 miles per hour on Highway 2 Sunday. Swanson allegedly refused to stop and reached speeds of about 115 miles per hour.

Authorities say Swanson later drove through Mekinock at more than 90 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone and ran two stop signs.

The pursuit ended when Swanson allegedly lost control while turning onto another road. His vehicle entered a ditch and rolled onto its roof. Swanson reported pain but was not seriously injured.

Swanson is charged with reckless endangerment and fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle. Both are Class-C felonies. He remains in the Grand Forks County Jail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 12th.
