Grand Forks Police Warn Parents About Snapchat Video Calls

Grand Forks Police are warning parents about how easily children can connect with unknown adults through Snapchat.

Police say a child added an unfamiliar account before receiving a message and entering a video call. During the call, a man allegedly engaged in sexually explicit behavior. A parent discovered what was happening and ended the call.

Authorities say earlier messages did not indicate the man knew he was speaking with a child. The incident still highlights the risks of accepting friend requests or video calls from strangers.

Parents are encouraged to review their children’s privacy settings and tell them to immediately end, block and report suspicious calls. Suspected online exploitation can also be reported to local police or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline
