GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW NEW ULM READINESS CENTER
The Minnesota National Guard is moving ahead with the second phase of their modernization effort in New Ulm by celebrating the groundbreaking off the readiness center Friday. Phase one of the project started in 2022 with the opening of the new field maintenance shop. Phase two is construction of the new readiness center that will be adjacent to the maintenance shop. The new armory will be over 40,000 square-feet and include classrooms, a fitness center, a learning center, solar panels and a hybrid heat pump mechanical system. It will be designed to house around 215 personnel and nearly 90 vehicles. The groundbreaking ceremony will start at 10 am Friday at the New Ulm Armory at 205 North Broadway and then will move to the site of the new readiness center at 2100 Palmer Avenue near Menards. Major General Shawn Manke and New Ulm Mayor Kathleen Backer are scheduled to speak.
