Harland “Butch” Ward

Harland “Butch” Ward, age 80 of Le Sueur, MN passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Oak Terrance Senior Living in Le Sueur with his wife by his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anne’s Church in Le Sueur. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 3-6 P.M. at Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur, and continued Monday morning from 8-10 A.M. before the procession to the church. Interment with Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Sueur. Following the burial, lunch will be held at St. Anne’s School.

Butch was born on March 5, 1944 in Garden City, MN to James and Fern (Behnke) Ward. He grew up and attended public school in Easton, MN and graduated from Wells High School in 1963. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force. He married Carol Sonnek on September 10, 1966 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Easton, MN. Together they built a family and moved to Le Sueur in 1972. Butch worked as a RCA TV technician and eventually owned Butch Ward’s TV and Appliance from 1972 to his retirement in 2011.

He had many outdoor hobbies. As many know, he was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed playing his part as a gunsmith. If something was broken, Butch could (and would) fix it for all of his friends and family in the community. He was a great mentor to his family, and adored all of the time he was able to spend with them.

Butch is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Shannon Ward (significant other, Kellie VonBank) of St. Paul, MN, Scott (Sheri) Ward of Amery, WI, Renae (Kenn) Mueller of Arlington, MN, Tina Ward (Significant other, Chas Grillo) of Pequot Lakes, MN, and David (Joy) Ward of Sauk Rapids, MN; 9 Grandchildren, Sarah Tiede, Emily Tiede, Tim (Jaden) Leslie, Ryan (Kristina Berry) Leslie, Noah Ward, Reegan Ward, Griffen Ward, Tia Ward, and Alayna Ward, and 6 Great-Grandchildren, Avalyn, Laken, Owen, Camden, Palmer, and Poppy. Brother, Gordon (Sharon) Ward, Mankato, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roger & Gene Ward.
