Heat Advisory in Effect for the Morris Area Today

The National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Heat Advisory for Stevens County and surrounding areas, including Morris, from 9 AM this morning until midnight tonight.

Heat index values are expected to climb as high as 105 degrees today. Hot temperatures combined with high humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for those working outdoors, older adults, young children, and anyone without reliable access to air conditioning.

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room when possible, stay out of direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors.

The advisory includes portions of west-central Minnesota, including Stevens, Douglas, Todd, Pope, Lac Qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, and Yellow Medicine Counties.

Anyone spending time outside today should take frequent breaks, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
