She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Montevideo, graduating from Montevideo High School. Following high school, Helen pursued her education by attending nursing school. She dedicated many years of caring for others while working at the Appleton Area Care Center, where she worked for many years and treated everyone like family.
On November 10, 1956, Helen was united in marriage to Donald Larston Meyer at Mandt Lutheran Church in Chippewa County. Helen had a love of music and shared her talents by playing the piano and organ for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Her home was always filled with music, whether she was playing the piano or organ, or playing records or CDs while she hummed along.
