HOUSE COULD VOTE ON DAIRY BILL THURSDAY AFTERNOON
A bill to provide financial assistance to Minnesota dairy farmers is one step away from heading to the governor’s desk for his signature. The measure helps dairy farmers pay for insurance in case milk prices fall, or feed prices rise. The bill passed the Senate 66-0, but has slowed down in the House. DFL Senate Ag Chair Arik Putnam of St. Cloud: =————————– [jadairibillupdate1.mp3] :16 (FOR THIS ASSISTANCE) “It’s essential. It’s absolutely essential. And especially again we’re talking about 28 to 32 farms who have started since the original bill was passed who if we don’t pass this and get signed into law, the ones who need it the most are the ones who aren’t going to be eligible for this assistance.” =————————- Senator Putnam says there’s no reason why the House shouldn’t quickly pass this bill. =————————– [jadairibillupdate2.mp3] :03 (THIS IS AN EASY VOTE) “If people care about farmers, and they care about dairy, this is an easy vote.” =————————- The bill could get a full House vote as early as this afternoon. (House starts Thursday at 3:30pm)
