HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN FAIRMONT PARK

Fairmont police are investigating after human remains were found in Sylvania Park in Fairmont Tuesday.  Police say a citizen found bones and teeth on the ground.  The remains were sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office Wednesday and they were confirmed to be human.  Authorities say due to the perceived age of the remains and the park’s Native American significance, the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council was informed of the findings as was the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.  MIAC and the State Archaeologist along with other officials are working to determine of the area is an unrecorded cemetery.  The park’s southwest corner is closed to the public until further notice.  Fairmont police say there aren’t any investigations regarding the findings and no threat to the public.
