Hutchinson Mosquito Spraying Begins
Spring rain has helped the mosquito population, to our detriment…but the city of Hutchinson has already been taking the first step in limiting the number of the pesky blood-suckers, and they’re ready to take the second step.
At the beginning of May, larval treatments were put into the numerous holding ponds in the city and the annual adulticide spraying is scheduled to begin this evening (Wednesday), weather permitting.
Officials say the majority of the spraying will be done from dusk to midnight or early morning before dawn.
Trucks are equipped with GPS tracking devices and variable flow equipment allowing them to drive around 2 to 25 mph keeping the correct dosage.
Spraying is scheduled on Wednesday nights through June, with possible additional Wednesday nights through August 14.
