Irene Isabell (Bigaouette) Castor

Irene Isabell (Bigaouette) Castor, age 93 of Belle Plaine, passed away on September 16, 2024.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Michael Kaluza will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday morning from 9:00 – 10:30a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine followed by luncheon in the church social hall.

Irene was born in Faxon Township, Sibley County on May 17, 1931 to Sylvester and Clara (Barlage) Bigaouette. She grew up on the family farm until they moved to town in 1943. Irene graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1949. In 1962, Irene enjoyed her reign as the Belle Plaine Centennial Queen. On September 21, 1963 she married Harold “Bud” Castor. Irene worked as a personnel manager at the Norwesco plastic plant for 27 years, and later worked at the Belle Plaine Sales Barn and Sears Store. She was an active member of the Our Lady of the Prairie CCW, The VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; Siblings Raymond, Thomas, Richard, Francis, and Jerry Bigaouette, Marie Brazil, Josephine Deutsch, Myrtle Buesgens and Ethel Hervin.

Irene is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
