Jalapeños Suspected in Minnesota Salmonella Outbreak

Minnesota health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 110 people statewide.

Jalapeño peppers served at Mexican-style quick-service restaurants, including Chipotle, are the suspected source. Most reported meals were eaten between mid-June and mid-July.

Nineteen people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Chipotle says it removed peppers from the suspected lot and supplied affected restaurants with jalapeños from different growers.

Health officials say it is too early to determine whether the outbreak is over because the peppers may have been served at other restaurants. The federal Food and Drug Administration is continuing its traceback investigation.

Suspected foodborne illnesses can be reported through the Minnesota Department of Health.
