Janice Marie Sticha

Janice Marie Sticha, age 81, of Lonsdale passed away peacefully and unexpectedly, on October 11, 2024, following a brief illness.  Born on June 12, 1943, Janice lived a life marked by quiet strength and grace.  She faced adversity with courage, an attribute that defined her throughout her life.  She was a cherished and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, caring, resilience, and wisdom.

Janice was born to Emil and Tillie (Kuckinka) Fierst and grew up in Montgomery.  After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Ben Sticha, they made their home in Lonsdale where they shared 58 cherished years.  Together they built a life filled with love and joy where she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family.  Her daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren were the joy of her life.  She was a nurturing presence, always offering her support and wisdom and was never more than a telephone call away.  Her family was the center of her world and she took great pride in their happiness and achievements.  She will be remembered not only for her remarkable resilience but also for her gentle spirit, devotion to her family and the wisdom that she imparted on all who knew her.  She leaves behind a family who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

For most of her life, Janice journaled daily, capturing her days with reflection and thoughtfulness.  Her writings are a testament to her deep appreciation for life, the people that she loved and the experiences that shaped her.  She enjoyed taking time to watch tv, read, talk on the telephone, bake, and garden.  She also enjoyed attending her grandchildrens’ special events, activities and sports.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and spent many years volunteering with the American Red Cross blood drive.

Janice is survived by her devoted husband, Ben Sticha of Lonsdale; daughters Amy (Thom) O’Neill of Lake Elmo and JeNean (Brent) Cory of Shakopee; grandchildren Ashlyn Cory, Claire O’Neill, Elise O’Neill, Logan Cory, and Rhiannon O’Neill; sister Sharon Lanning of Sandpoint, Idaho; sister-in-law Theresa Fierst of Northfield; and niece Lorri Fierst of Lakeville.  She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Harlin Fierst and sister Bonnie Fierst
