Jean Claire Anderson, age 89 of Farmington, Minnesota, formerly of Morris, MN, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024, in Farmington, MN.
Memorial services for Jean Anderson will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Jean Claire Alfson was born in Morris, Minnesota, on June 9, 1934 to Selmer and Alma Alfson. She did not come into this world alone, but with her twin brother James. Jean attended Cyrus schools from 1st grade through 12th grade. After graduation, she received her LPN nursing degree from the Miller Hospital School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minnesota, and worked at the Stevens County Hospital for 27 years. The nursery was her favorite place to work. She loved caring for the newborn babies. Jean married Erwin Anderson from Hancock, Minnesota on February 20, 1954. They lived on the family farm where they raised their four children.
Jean enjoyed sewing and loved shopping for new fabrics to make quilts. She began sewing on the old treadle sewing machine her mom had and was thrilled when she got newer sewing machines that had fancy stitching. She made each one of her children and grandchildren a quilt, and also made hundreds of baby cloths and flour sack dishtowels that she “quilted” to add that special touch. Erwin and Jean traveled throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Mazatlán, and St. Thomas. They were “snow birds” in Arizona in the winters, and spent time in the summer at their cabin on Lake Villard, near Glenwood. Jean enjoyed playing cards with her good friends of many years, singing, writing, and tending her flowers. Most of all, Jean dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as nurturing, a great listener and so very kind.
Jean is survived by her four children: Terrie (Mark) Schmidt, Bill Anderson, Steven (Kris) Anderson, and Kellie Fae (Monte) Bloom; ten grandchildren: Mara (Chris) Norby, Melissa (Darin) Biamonte, Uriah (Melissa Shaw) Anderson, Maegen (John) Phaneuf, Mary Anderson, Crystal Anderson, Chase Anderson, Jessica (Brett) Bloom, Cody (Jen) Bloom, and Stefan (Jenni) Bloom; nine great-grandchildren, Ben and Oliver Anderson, Benji and Poppy Phaneuf, Lucy, Alton, and Lettie Bloom, and Samuel and Mia Norby; brothers: James Alfson and Gordon Alfson; sister-in-law: Marjorie Alfson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, including Connie Solvie, her beloved niece and friend.
Jean is proceeded in death by her husband: Erwin; parents: Selmer and Alma Alfson; grandson: Bob Anderson; brother: Orrin Alfson; sister: Lila Estenson; sisters-in law: Lyla Mae Lembcke, Arletta Myers, JoAnn Anderson, Shirley Alfson, and Rubye Alfson; and brothers-in-law: Larry Lembcke, Harold Anderson, Bill Myers, Red Jarvis, and Martin Estenson.
Arrangements are with Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, MN.
