Jose Miranda ties MLB record with hits in 12 straight at-bats as Twins top Astros 9-3

Jose Miranda made history on Saturday, equaling a major league milestone by hitting safely in 12 consecutive plate appearances. The Minnesota Twins dominated the Houston Astros with a 9-3 victory, backed by strong performances from Byron Buxton and Brooks Lee, who both homered.

Miranda, playing third base, entered the game already holding the Twins’ record for hitting in 10 straight at-bats. The 26-year-old extended his streak with two singles early in the game, matching the MLB record set by Johnny Kling in 1902 and later matched by Pinky Higgins in 1938 and Walt Dropo in 1952. His remarkable run came to an end in the sixth inning with a routine flyout to left field.

Minnesota quickly took control with a five-run lead by the second inning, eventually stretching it to 7-1 after three innings. Willi Castro contributed three hits to the Twins’ offensive barrage.

On the mound, Joe Ryan (6-5) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs to earn the win, ending a streak of three consecutive no-decisions.

Houston’s Jon Singleton managed a two-run homer, but it wasn’t enough to halt the Twins’ momentum. Hunter Brown (6-6), previously in stellar form with just one earned run allowed over his last five starts, struggled against Minnesota, giving up seven runs on a season-high 12 hits over six innings.

By the fourth inning, every Twins starter had contributed at least one hit. Brooks Lee, recently called up and making a significant impact, hit his first career home run—a two-run shot in the third inning. Byron Buxton added insurance with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, securing the win after Houston threatened to tie the game in the sixth.

Looking ahead, the series concludes on Sunday with Spencer Arrighetti (4-7, 6.13 ERA) of the Astros facing Simeon Woods Richardson (3-1, 3.52 ERA) of the Twins. Arrighetti aims to rebound after a challenging outing, while Woods Richardson seeks to continue his steady form despite recent struggles.
