Josh Jung homers, hits winning single as Rangers come back for 6-5 win over Twins in 10 innings

ARLINGTON, TX – The Texas Rangers secured a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins in 10 innings on Sunday, overcoming a 4-0 deficit. The Rangers’ rally was led by Josh Jung, who had a crucial infield single that was compounded by a throwing error from Twins infielder José Miranda. This error allowed the automatic runner Adolis García to score, giving the Rangers the walk-off win.

The game saw a remarkable turnaround as the Rangers scored five runs in the seventh inning to erase a four-run deficit. Jung contributed with a solo homer in that inning, adding to a rally that included RBI doubles from Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, and a two-run homer from García.

Despite a strong performance from the Twins’ starter, Pablo López, who kept the Rangers scoreless through six innings, the game shifted dramatically in the seventh. Minnesota’s closer, Kirby Yates, blew a save opportunity in the ninth when Carlos Santana hit a game-tying homer.

In extra innings, Andrew Chafin pitched a scoreless 10th for the Rangers. A critical moment occurred when Twins automatic runner Edouard Julien tried to score from third base on a grounder but was thrown out by shortstop Corey Seager. The play was upheld after a review, which showed that catcher Carson Kelly had effectively blocked the plate.

Gerson Garabito pitched four scoreless innings in relief, putting him in position for his first major league win until Santana’s homer. Texas is now 8-2 in extra innings this season, showcasing their resilience.

For the upcoming games, the Twins will have Zebby Matthews making his second big-league start against the San Diego Padres. The Rangers will decide between Dane Dunning and José Ureña for their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will send Luis Ortiz to the mound.
