Joyce Kron
Joyce Kron, age 102, peacefully passed away on December 24, 2025, at Eventide on Eighth Care Center in Moorhead MN.
Born on March 4, 1923, in Thief River Falls, MN, Joyce was the eldest child of Louis and Amy (Whitman) Meyer and grew up in the Steiner community. Joyce was a remarkable individual whose legacy of education, community service, and love for family will be cherished by all who knew her.
A graduate of Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls MN, Joyce further pursued her passion for education by attending Teachers Training in Thief River Falls, MN.
Joyce taught grades 1-8 in one room schoolhouses until 1948.
On October 11, 1946, Joyce was united in marriage to Delbert (Bert) Kron of the Rosewood, MN area. The couple moved to a farm in the Rosewood community of New Solum township, Marshall County, MN. Together they raised four children.
For years, Joyce reported Rosewood News for the Thief River Falls Times. Her commitment to nurturing young minds demonstrated her deep-rooted passion for education and children, as she updated her teaching degree in the early 1970’s. She became a substitute teacher at both Viking and Newfolden Elementary Schools.
Joyce was known for her vibrant personality. With an ever-present smile, she engaged with those around her, always showing genuine interest in her family’s lives and the world around her. Her hobbies included reading, tree planting, vegetable and flower gardening, and actively participating in her community. Joyce treasured her trips with her husband Bert, sharing countless memories.
She had many accomplishments, such as being honored by Pennington County as one of their senior citizens of the year. She was a charter member of the Viking Town and Country Garden Club and Rosewood Homemakers. She served as a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls. Additionally, her leadership skills shone through as a leader of the New Solum 4-H club for 35 years. She and Bert were recognized as Friends of 4-H by Pennington County. She was an active member of the Marshall County Historical Society and the United Methodist Church.
Later in retirement, Joyce and Bert lived at Skylite Apartments in TRF. She eventually resided in Valley Home and Greenleaf assisted living.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; her parents Louis and Amy Meyer; sisters Marion (Glatiotis), Margaret (Nelson), Ruth (Berg), and brother Lewis Meyer.
Family survivors include brother Frederick Meyer of Mitchell, SD; children Karen (Glenn) Odberg of Paynesville, MN; Keith (Diane) Kron of Paola, KS; Laura (Orland) Roppe of Moorhead, MN; and Leonard (Bonnie Schock) Kron of Tucson, AZ. Joyce was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many relatives and special longtime friends and neighbors.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
Visitation will be held one hour prior.
Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love that will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
