Kaprizov leads Wild to 3-0 win over Canadiens with assist and empty-net goal
ST. PAUL, MN – Kirill Kaprizov tallied an empty-net goal and an assist, while Filip Gustavsson made 19 saves to earn his first shutout of the season, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 3-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.
Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi also found the back of the net for the Wild. Boldy broke the deadlock in the second period, tapping in a pass from Marcus Johansson right in front of the crease. Rossi extended the lead with a power-play goal in the third period.
With just 1:30 remaining, the Canadiens pulled their goalie in a last-ditch effort, but Kaprizov sealed the win, scoring into the empty net with 20 seconds left.
The Wild, who have gone 6-1-1 since October 29, kept their strong form intact. Meanwhile, Montreal’s struggles continued as they dropped to 1-6-1 over their last eight games. Sam Montembeault finished with 25 saves for the Canadiens in a losing effort.
Looking ahead, Montreal will host Columbus on Saturday, while Minnesota will face off against the Stars on the same day.
