Kaprizov signed, Wild win in Preseason

(Undated/Minnesota News Network) — The Wild are making their star forward the highest-paid player in NHL history. Minnesota is signing left wing Kirill Kaprizov to an eight-year, 136-million-dollar contract extension to keep him with the team through the 2033-34 season. The deal is the highest in NHL history in terms of total money and average annual value at 17-million-dollars. The contract kicks in next season and reportedly includes large signing bonuses over the first four years. The 28-year-old has 25 goals and 31 assists in 41 games played last season. He ranks fourth in team history with 185 goals and fifth with 386 points.

Hot off his contract extension, Kirill Kaprizov led the Wild to a 3-2 preseason win over the Jets on Tuesday night in St. Paul. Kaprizov scored a power play goal and added an assist in the victory on the same day he signed the richest contract in N-H-L history at eight years for 136 million dollars. Matt Boldy and Marcus Foligno also scored as the Wild stopped a three game losing streak and got their first win on home ice. Jesper Wallstedt got the start and recorded his second win of the preseason on 26 saves. The Wild are now 2-2-1 on the preseason and will wrap up the exhibition schedule on Friday night in Chicago.
