Kayla McBride scores 12 of her 15 points in the third quarter, and the Lynx beat the Dream 76-64
On Tuesday night, the Minnesota Lynx secured a 76-64 victory over the Atlanta Dream, thanks in part to Kayla McBride’s explosive third quarter performance. McBride, who had been held to just two points in the first half, erupted for 12 of her 15 total points in the third quarter. The Lynx were tied 50-50 with four minutes remaining in the quarter before going on a decisive 13-4 run, giving them a 63-54 lead. McBride contributed seven points during this crucial stretch.
The Lynx maintained their advantage in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 74-60 with a three-pointer by Bridget Carleton with 3:49 left. Meanwhile, Atlanta struggled, going four minutes without a field goal. Minnesota’s defense was stifling, holding Atlanta to just 30% shooting (21 of 70).
Bridget Carleton finished the game with 14 points, and Courtney Williams added 12. Alanna Smith chipped in nine points for the Lynx, who improved their record to 27-9.
For Atlanta (12-24), Allisha Gray led with 17 points and was perfect from the free-throw line, making all eight of her attempts. Rhyne Howard contributed 14 points, and Tina Charles set a franchise record with her 18th double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Carleton was particularly effective in the first half, making all four of her shots, including three from beyond the arc, to score 11 points. Williams also contributed 10 points, helping Minnesota hold a 41-38 lead at halftime.
