Kayla McBride scores 19 to help Lynx beat Mercury 89-76, extend win streak to 7 games
PHOENIX, AZ – Minnesota Lynx extended their winning streak to seven games with a solid 89-76 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday night. Kayla McBride led the Lynx with 19 points, including three of the team’s 11 3-pointers. The Lynx built a commanding lead early, using a 17-0 run in the first quarter to turn a 5-3 deficit into a 20-5 advantage.
Courtney Williams contributed 16 points and five assists, while Napheesa Collier added 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Myisha Hines-Allen chipped in 11 points, and Bridget Carleton rounded out the notable performances with nine points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
The Mercury, despite strong efforts from Diana Taurasi and Sophie Cunningham, who both scored 16 points, struggled with shooting and had a scoring drought that hindered their chances. Kahleah Copper added 13 points, Natasha Cloud contributed 12 points and eight assists, and Brittney Griner scored 10 points but had a tough night shooting, going 3 of 12 from the field.
Minnesota’s lead grew to as much as 21 points in the third quarter and was 71-52 heading into the fourth. Phoenix made several attempts to close the gap, getting within 12 points twice, but the Lynx’s lead proved too substantial to overcome. With this win, Minnesota is now a half-game ahead of Connecticut for the second-best record in the WNBA.
