KC Shuts Out Twins

The Minnesota Twins lost at Kansas City last night, 5-0. The Twins managed just four hits and one walk in the game. Kansas City scored four runs off Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews, who surrendered four runs, nine hits, one walk and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. The best scoring opportunity for Minnesota came in the fourth inning, when they trailed 1-0. Austin Martin hit a double, and Kyle Farmer tried to score from first base but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. This was the first game of a three-game series between teams that are battling for the A-L Central crown and wild-card spots. Cleveland won last night, so they have a four-and-a-half-game lead over Kansas City in the A-L Central, while Minnesota is five back. In the wild card, Kansas City holds the second wild card by a half-a-game over Minnesota. The Twins hold the third wild card, by four-and-a-half-games over Seattle and five games over Boston. Twenty-one games remain in the regular season for Minnesota.
