Knife Assult at Centra Care in Willmar

Police were called to the CentraCare Emergency Department in Willmar Monday morning on an immediate request for assistance with a combative patient that had a knife.

Officers arrived and found that a 31-year-old Willmar man who had been in the hospital for an apparent mental health issue had produced a knife and had stabbed a CentraCare employee.

The employee was injured but escaped to safety while the suspect was subdued by CentraCare Security and other staff.

The employee suffered serious injury and is undergoing treatment.

Authorities say the suspect injured himself during the assault, received treatment, and was then taken to the Kandiyohi County Jail with charges pending.
