Larry Benedict Seifert was born July 19, 1945, to Benedict and Inez (Mueller) Seifert in Graceville, MN.  He attended St. Mary’s Academy through the eighth grade and was a 1963 graduate of Graceville High School. Following high school, he served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1963 to 1967.

At age 16, Larry met the love of his life, Diana Hoppe.  They began dating in high school.  Many of their early dates were spent with Larry driving school bus and Diana riding along.  The only other times they were able to go on dates, they had to take Diana’s younger siblings along.

Larry and Diana were united in marriage on June 23, 1967.  They made their home in rural Dumont, MN, where they lived for their entire marriage of 57 years.  They were blessed with two children, Darin and Darcy.

Larry’s love of farming began in middle school, learning from his grandpa Seifert.  After high school, he began farming on his own and also helped his father farm.  Larry passed on his love of farming to his son, Darin, and they farmed together for many years.  When he was no longer able to get into the equipment, he was always available to give advice, give rides to and from the fields, run for parts, and never forgot to bring lunch.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with friends.  He was the man who listened to others and gave great advice.  In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to farm shows, and taking car trips with his wife and children.  He especially enjoyed taking his children to county fairs as well as the Huron SD State Fair.  In his later years, he enjoyed watching TV shows such as Westerns, RFD TV, and war movies.  He enjoyed driving around to check crops and stopping to visit with neighbors.  After Diana’s retirement, they had a ritual of having morning coffee and watching Good Morning America together and bonding with their cat, Cocoa.  It was important to him to get his family together for special occasions or just for a meal and conversation.  He always made sure no one left the table hungry.  As his grandson got older, Larry spent time taking him to amusement parks, movies, and it was a running joke that “grandpa suddenly had McDonald’s money.”

Left to honor his memory are his wife: Diana of Dumont, MN; son: Darin (Val) Seifert of Dumont, MN; daughter: Darcy Seifert of Graceville, MN; grandson: Cole Henry; brothers: Marc (Marilyn) Seifert of Worthington, MN, and Don (Margaret) Seifert of Graceville, MN; sister-in-law: Shirley Seifert of Graceville, MN; brothers-in-law: Terry (Jean) Hoppe of Graceville, MN, and Greg (Kathy) Hoppe of Graceville, MN; sisters-in-law: Debby Stotesbery of Graceville, MN, and Cheri Braun of Rosholt, SD; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
