Matt Boldy breaks 3rd-period tie, Wild top Lightning 4-2 to remain unbeaten in regulation
TAMPA, FL – Matt Boldy scored just 54 seconds into the third period, breaking the tie and leading the Minnesota Wild to a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. With this win, the Wild remain unbeaten in regulation, now boasting a record of 5-0-2.
Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his first win of the season, making 23 saves and marking the 562nd victory of his illustrious career. Boldy’s power-play goal put Minnesota ahead 3-2, while Kirill Kaprizov netted two goals, including one into an empty net, and Joel Eriksson Ek contributed another score.
For Tampa Bay, Brandon Hagel and Nikita Kucherov each found the net in the second period, but the Lightning suffered their first loss at home this season, falling to 3-1. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 14 saves in his third consecutive loss.
Kaprizov opened the scoring for the Wild at 6:23 of the first period, but the Lightning responded in the second with two quick goals from Hagel and Kucherov. Eriksson Ek tied the game late in that period, setting the stage for Boldy’s decisive goal.
Looking ahead, the Wild will continue their seven-game road trip on Saturday against Philadelphia, while the Lightning will host Washington that same night.
