Matt Boldy scores the only goal in a shootout to send the Wild past Utah 5-4
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Matt Boldy scored the only goal in the shootout, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 5-4 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday night.
Marco Rossi tied the game with just 43.2 seconds left in regulation, sending it into overtime. Kirill Kaprizov added his 18th goal of the season, while Marat Khusnutdinov and Marcus Johansson also found the net for Minnesota. Filip Gustavsson made 21 saves to secure the win.
Clayton Keller played a key role for Utah, scoring twice in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit. Kevin Stenlund and Juuso Valimaki also scored, and Karel Vejmelka recorded 34 saves in the loss.
The Utah Hockey Club suffered their fifth consecutive home defeat, while the Wild extended their strong form with their sixth win in seven games.
Minnesota turned the game around late in the second period after falling behind 1-0. Khusnutdinov tied it up by racing through the middle and firing the puck past Vejmelka. The Wild then took a 2-1 lead when Kaprizov stole the puck from Olli Maatta and scored on a counterattack.
Keller responded in the third, scoring twice on the power play. Valimaki’s goal with 8:15 remaining gave Utah a 4-3 advantage before Rossi’s clutch goal sent the game into overtime.
Up next, Minnesota heads home for five consecutive games, starting with a matchup against Edmonton on Thursday. Utah will visit Colorado the same day.
