Mets Score Late, Defeat Twins

The New York Mets scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead and held on to beat the Minnesota Twins last night 3-2 in the Big Apple. The 8-16 Mets won a game for the first time since April 7th, snapping a 12-game losing streak. The Twins got a solo homer from Byron Buxton and an R-B-I sac fly from Victor Caratini to account for the offense. Minnesota rookie pitchers Connor Prielipp and Kendry Rojas each made their Major League debuts in the game, and both pitched well. Prielipp started the game and worked four innings of four-hit, two-run ball. Rojas worked two scoreless innings in relief. Lefty reliever Taylor Rogers issued a two-out, bases-empty walk in the bottom of the eighth inning before Justin Topa walked the first batter he faced and then gave up a bloop R-B-I single to Mark Vientos. The rubber game of the three-game interleague series is tonight at 6:10 P-M. Coverage begins at 5:30pm on KNUJ and SAM 107.3.
