Minnesota Farmers Welcome John Deere Repair Settlement
Minnesota farmers are welcoming a right-to-repair settlement with John Deere.
The agreement requires Deere to give farmers and independent repair providers access to repair resources equivalent to those available to authorized dealers. That includes diagnostic functions, software reprogramming and technical information. The requirements remain in place for ten years.
Chippewa County farmer Josh Vanderpool says he paid for the same transmission repair twice before a mechanic discovered that a software update was needed.
Big Stone County farmer Anne Spiegel says expanded access will support local mechanics and other small-town businesses. Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish says equipment owners should be free to choose who performs their repairs.
