Minnesota, North Dakota Court Data Exposed in Vendor Breach

Private information connected to court systems in Minnesota and North Dakota may have been exposed in a security breach involving a technology vendor.

C-Track, a court case-management platform owned by Thomson Reuters’ West Publishing, says an unauthorized party obtained certain files in March. The activity was discovered June 30th.

The affected files may contain names, Social Security and driver’s-license numbers, dates of birth, medical and health-insurance information, and some confidential, sealed or redacted court data.

Minnesota officials say court orders and legal briefs were not involved. The Judicial Branch terminated the vendor’s access to state court systems, audited accounts and opened an investigation with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement.

C-Track says there is no evidence so far that the information has been used for fraud. Affected individuals are being offered one year of credit monitoring and identity-theft protection.
