Minnesota Primary Sets Major November Matchups

Minnesota’s major November matchups are set following Tuesday’s primary election. All precincts have reported, although the results remain unofficial until canvassed.

Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan won the D-F-L nomination for U-S Senate with 59 percent of the vote, defeating Congresswoman Angie Craig. Former sports reporter Michele Tafoya captured the Republican nomination with 52 percent. Flanagan and Tafoya will compete for the seat being vacated by Tina Smith.

In the governor’s race, Amy Klobuchar and running mate Ben Schierer received nearly 90 percent in the D-F-L primary. Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth and running mate Ryan Wilson won with 43 percent, defeating Mike Lindell and Kendall Qualls. Klobuchar and Demuth will meet in November.

Attorney General Keith Ellison won his D-F-L primary with nearly 85 percent and will face Republican Ronald Schutz.

Scott Jensen received about 67 percent in the Republican state-auditor primary. He advances against D-F-L nominee Zack Filipovich.
