Minnesota PUC Opens Utility-Affordability Investigation

Minnesota regulators are beginning a statewide investigation into the affordability of electricity and natural gas.

The Public Utilities Commission will examine how regulation, state and federal requirements, and other factors affect customer bills.

Minnesota had the country’s eighth-lowest average residential electric bill in 2024. The commission says its rate reviews have reduced proposed increases by more than one-point-two-five-billion dollars since 2020.
