Minnesota to Receive at Least $214 Million in Meta Settlement

Minnesota is set to receive at least 214-million dollars through a nationwide settlement with Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta.

The agreement resolves allegations that Meta used addictive features and exposed young users to mental-health risks. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison says the state’s share could grow to 307-million dollars if other major social-media companies agree to similar terms.

The proposed settlement requires a combined two-hour daily limit for teenage Facebook and Instagram users. It also includes overnight access restrictions, limited notifications during school hours, stronger parental controls and additional age-verification measures.

The nationwide agreement guarantees states about 12-point-2-billion dollars and could grow to 17-point-1-billion. It must still receive federal court approval. Minnesota Attorney General’s Office
