Miranda homers, drives in tiebreaking run to give Twins 4-3 win over Astros
HOUSTON, TX – On Sunday, Jose Miranda’s bat sizzled with brilliance, igniting the Minnesota Twins to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros. In the sixth inning, Miranda electrified the crowd with a solo homer, then in the eighth, he delivered a clutch RBI double that broke the tie and secured the win for the Twins. Trevor Larnach also contributed to the victory with a powerful home run, adding to Minnesota’s offensive prowess in the game.
Steven Okert claimed the victory for the Twins after securing two crucial outs, while Jhoan Duran wrapped up the ninth inning, notching his 10th save of the season.
Miranda’s sixth homer of the season, a majestic blast to left-center field off Hunter Brown, knotted the score at 3-3. Then, in the eighth, Larnach’s leadoff walk set the stage for Miranda’s heroics, as his ground ball down the third base line brought in the decisive run.
Larnach had set the tone early in the game with a leadoff home run off Brown’s fourth pitch, showcasing the Twins’ determination to seize control. However, the Astros fought back, with Alex Bregman and Victor Caratini launching homers of their own.
Despite Houston’s efforts, Minnesota’s pitching held firm. Simeon Woods Richardson, a Houston native, exhibited grit on the mound, tallying six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings despite surrendering a couple of homers.
For Woods Richardson, pitching in his hometown stadium was a dream realized, surrounded by the familiar sights and sounds of his childhood. The right-hander’s performance was a testament to his talent and determination.
Looking ahead, the Twins gear up to face the New York Yankees, with RHP Bailey Ober taking the mound for the series opener. Meanwhile, the Astros will face off against the St. Louis Cardinals, with RHP Justin Verlander poised to lead the charge against his opponents.
