MN Lawmakers Call for Sen. Mitchell’s Resignation Following Guilty Verdict

ST. PAUL — Both Democrat and Republican lawmakers in Minnesota said Friday they expect a resignation from Democrat Sen. Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury, following two guilty verdicts in her Detroit Lakes trial of burglary and possession of burglary tools on Friday (July 18).

The West Central Tribune reports the guilty verdict comes over a year after the burglary charges were first filed in April 2024, when she broke into her stepmother’s home, she claims for a welfare check.

Since then, the case has remained a point of contention in the Minnesota Senate, prompting ethics hearings , hours of floor debate and unsuccessful efforts to expel Mitchell.
