MN Native Regan Smith wins Gold, other Olympic notes
(Paris) — It was a big final day in swimming for Team U-S-A at the Paris Olympics. Americans added three more medals including the women winning gold in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay. Lakeville native Regan Smith was part of the relay team and took home a second Olympic gold medal in two days. Elsewhere, the men’s 4 x 100-meter medley relay team led by Caeleb Dressel earned silver. Meanwhile, American Bobby Finke won his second straight gold medal in the men’s 1500-meter freestyle while setting a new world record. Sunday marked the final day of swimming with Team U-S-A winning 28 total medals in the pool in Paris, 10 more than the next country Australia.
(Paris) — St. Paul native Suni Lee picked up her third Olympic medal on Sunday at the Paris Olympics. Lee won the bronze in Sunday’s uneven bars final for her sixth career Olympic medal. Lee will have a chance to leave Paris with another medal when she competes in the balance beam final today, which is the final day of gymnastics. The other three medal events are men’s parallel bars, men’s horizontal bar and women’s floor exercise. Simone Biles will be looking for more gold in both the beam and floor.
Paris) — Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was unstoppable in Team U-S-A’s 104-83 rout of Puerto Rico in the Paris Olympics on Saturday. The superstar led all players with 26 points in just 17 minutes of playing time. Edwards also added three rebounds, three assists, two steals and a highlight reel dunk in the win. Edwards and the rest of Team U-S-A take on Brazil in the Quarterfinals tomorrow.
(Paris) — Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier had a strong showing as Team U-S-A beat Germany 87-68 in the Paris Olympics yesterday. The Lynx All-Star filled up the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks in the victory. Collier knocked down 57-percent of her shots from the field. Collier and the rest of Team U-S-A go up against Nigeria in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday.
(Paris) — Sprinter Noah Lyles broke a 20-year drought for the Americans. After an exciting photo finish, and a difference of five-one-thousandths of a second, Lyles won the gold medal in the men’s 100 meter yesterday in Paris. Fellow American Fred Kerley took home bronze after finishing in third. Four more medal events are on tap today in athletics.
