MN Senate Democrats Pass Gun Violence Prevention Package

(Learfield News/St. Paul, MN) Minnesota Senate Democrats passed a comprehensive gun violence prevention package that includes a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

It comes more than eight months since the mass shooting at Annunciation Church and School.

Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy was asked about the tough talks leading up to the vote. She said, “Members have to make a decision. I’m giving them time to consider this, to talk to people in the districts they represent to dig in on what it means to protect kids from gun violence was the recipe. People reached their own conclusion.”

The Senate bill includes increased funding for school safety and mental health services.

House Republican have said they will not vote on any gun legislation.
