MNDOT HOLDS OPEN HOUSE FOR HIGHWAY 4 PROJECT SLEEPY EYE TO ST. JAMES

MnDOT held an open house Thursday in Sleepy Eye  regarding the Highway 4 improvement project from Sleepy Eye to St. James which is scheduled to start later this month.  Three bridges will be replaced and the improvements allow the highway to become a 10-ton route.  The work will be done in three phases.  The first phase will be bridge box culvert replacement from Sleepy Eye to Brown County Road 24 lasting from April 22 to early October.  Phase two includes the triple box culvert near St. James set to start in late June and last a couple of weeks.  Phase three will include a 60-calendar day closure of most of Highway 4.  Detours will be in place.  The road will be resurfaced, add rumble strips and update guard rails.  MnDOT officials also said they are going to put flashing stop signs at the intersection of County Roads 8 and 24 in Leavenworth by the ball park.  Another open house on the project will be held Monday from 4 – 6 at the Watonwan County Library in St. James.
