Morris Hospital to Provide Up to $1.4 Million in Patient Relief

A western Minnesota hospital will provide up to one-point-four-million dollars in refunds and medical-debt relief to uninsured patients.

Attorney General Keith Ellison says Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris incorrectly calculated discounts required under Minnesota law, causing some patients to be billed more than they should have been.

Nearly 35-hundred patients who received care between April 2020 and December 2025 could qualify for a refund or debt reduction. Patients must have been uninsured and had a household income below 125-thousand dollars when they received care.

Minnesota law limits what hospitals may charge qualifying uninsured patients. The settlement resolves the allegations and requires the hospital to provide the financial relief.
