MOSQUITO SEASON IS HERE
Another sure sign spring has arrived in Minnesota, mosquitoes. Experts say the first mosquitoes showing up are mostly a nuisance. Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District says some species survive the winter as adults and are the first to appear once temperatures warm up. Other mosquitoes are still developing in standing water and could emerge over the next couple of weeks—possibly sooner if warm weather continues. Carlson says the mosquitoes carrying disease typically appear later in the season. In the meantime, aerial mosquito treatments have already begun across parts of the state to help keep numbers down.
